4 1. Select a shoe to use – ideally one with laces. 2. Start with a dry surface. 3. Hook the Newton meter onto the shoelaces. 4. Pull the shoe along the surface and record the amount of force needed in the results table. 5. Change the amount of mass inside the shoe and repeat. 6. Continue up to 1000g. 7. Repeat the experiment for a wet or lubricated surface. 8. Some of you will work quick enough to obtain 2 sets of results for each surface. In this case, you need to calculate an average result. 5 You now need to plot a line graph of your results. Mass in grams along the bottom. Force in Newton's up the side. Plot the results for the 2 different surfaces on the same graph using a different colour for each line. Remember to label the axis and give the graph a title. 6 Conclusion Were there any anomalous (dodgy looking) results that did not fit on the line? Can you explain them? Which surface had the biggest friction? What happens to the amount of friction as the mass inside the shoe gets bigger? Was this experiment a fair test? How did you make it a fair test or not?
