3  On the east coast of Africa and is roughly the size of Texas.  Semi desert northern plains is hot and arid.  The people usually move to take advantage to grazing.  Southeast is tropical.  Kenya has long rains from April to June and short rains from October to November. Also, Kenya is dry and windy from December to March.  Kenya is famous for wildlife such as lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah, elephant, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, and impala.  Kenya has two of Africa’s great lakes. Lake Turkana (Lake Rudolf) lies near the Chalbi Desert, and Lake Victoria overlaps the southwestern border. Mount Kenya, the second highest point in Africa, rises in the center of the country to an elevation of 17,058 feet (5,199 meters).  Language is Kishwahili or Swahili

4  Family: Average family is large and often have close relationships with their relatives.  Housing: In rural areas, people live in small houses without clean water and electricity. They have large townhouses in cities but the poor live in cramped dwellings.  Diet: Staple foods are milk, ugali (a stiff cornmeal doughnut), ugi (porridge made from ugali ingredients), red bean stew, mandazi (a doughnut like food), githeri (corns and beans) and chapti (a flat bread)

5  Recreation: Mostly soccer and track-and-field activities.  Arts: Music is affected by Western music. One famous form is benga.  Holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Labor Day, Madaraka Day (birth of republic), Kenyatta Day (celebrating Jomo Kenyatta’s arrest opposing British authorities)
