History of Natural Family Planning BBT: first correlated with menstrual cycle 1868, –first used in NFP 1935, –first published 1939 Calendar Rhythm: 1929 with first recognition of relationship of ovulation to end of cycle. (Oginos and Knaus) (natural contraceptive) Sympto-Thermal work began 1951 (Roetzer) Ovulation method: –Billings began 1953 (natural family planning) –Odeblad started research 1959 –Hilgers began standardization 1977 –Creighton Model (CrM) developed 1980 –NaPro Technology first described 1991 (health maintenance)
