3. Coordinate Plane A coordinate plane is made of two perpendicular number lines, one horizontal and one vertical. The horizontal line is called the x-axis, and the vertical line is called the y-axis. The number lines divide the pane into four quadrants. The intersection of the x- and y-axis is called the origin.
