DON'T SHINE YOUR LIGHT! MATTHEW 5:14-16 14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

DON'T SHINE YOUR LIGHT! Jesus said – You are the light of the world Our light is meant to be seen by the world Are you LETTING your light shine? OR Do you SHINE your light?

OUR CLOTHING Many SHINE their light Wear a cross, Tee shirt, bumper sticker - “I love Jesus” LET it shine 1 Timothy 2:9-10 9 in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

OUR CLOTHING “Modest” includes 2 parts DECENT – Our clothing must not be too _____ Fill in the blank – tight, low, high, thin, revealing APPROPRIATE – suited for the occasion Dress differently for God than gardening Dress differently for a funeral than for fun at the ball park

OUR PRAYERS Many – show off, to be seen of men Matthew 6:5 5 "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

OUR PRAYERS LET your prayers be seen in your life. Matthew 6:6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

OUR LANGUAGE Do you SHINE your light shine in how you speak? Many use “spiritual jargon” They speak with a “stained glass” whine This send out a “holier-than-thou” attitude

OUR LANGUAGE LET your light shine in how you speak. Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Verses 31-32 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

OUR MONEY DON'T brag about your wealth Some boast about how much they give Matthew 6:2-3 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

OUR MONEY All that we have belongs to God We are just stewards of God's money 1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 1 Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

OUR WORSHIP For many worship is about entertainment They jump, shout, wave hands in the air Some churches are just a cheap concert This “worship” is not directed toward God, but toward the pleasure of the audience Instrumental music Chorus, solo, special numbers John 4:23-24 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

OUR WORSHIP Let your light shine toward God. As we worship – God is to be glorified As we worship – We must seek to please God As we worship – Let your light shine 1 Corinthians 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

LEARN THE DIFFERENCE GOD WANTS SPIRITUAL FRUIT NOT RELIGIOUS NUTS

LEARN THE DIFFERENCE Are you seeking to be in the spotlight? Are you LETTING your light shine? When people look at us – are they: Blinded be our “spiritual” light? Are they seeing US or the CHRIST in us? The world is in darkness. We are the only light they will ever see.
