Waterways ~ Rhine river: highly traveled, IMPORTANT, begins in Germany, flows north and south ~ Danube river- highly important begins in Germany, flows east and west ~ Volga river – in western Russia, IMPORTANT for movement of people and goods ~ Mediterranean Sea – borders south coast of Europe

Landforms Peninsula definition: bodies of land surrounded by water on 3 sides ~ Scandinavian Peninsula – Norway and Sweden ~ Iberian Peninsula – Portugal and Spain ~ Europe is a peninsula continent

Mountains Mountains- separate groups of people as they settled causing different cultures to form ~ Alps – in S. Europe ~ Pyrenees – separate Portugal and Spain from rest of Europe ~ Ural Mts. – in Russia, divide Europe from Russia
