3 14 Decembe 2010Institute for Aerospace Technology3 Aerospace Research at Nottingham Nottinghams current aerospace research portfolio is £35-40 million – including £20 million in EPSRC funding and involving >50 academic experts Key programmes include: –2 Rolls-Royce University Technology Centres (UTCs): Gas Turbine Transmissions & Manufacturing (1997-) –GE Aviation/ EPSRC SMARTPACT strategic partnership in Advanced Electrical Power & Actuation Systems (2005-11) –EPSRC funded Nottingham Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (NIMRC, 2001–11, £16m) –EU/ Industry Clean Sky JTI – Systems for Green Operations – UoN is only University with associate member status – (2008-15, 10.3m) –5 EPSRC Platform Grants related to Aerospace Technologies - highest number at any UK university

4 14 Decembe 2010Institute for Aerospace Technology4 Supporting aerospace innovation regionally & nationally - providing a pipeline from our fundamental (TRL 1-3) to applied (TRL 4-6) research To support three key elements: –Enhance basic research infrastructure (Aerospace Research Centre), manufacturing equipment & measurement techniques for materials/ structures (CAMERA) –New infrastructure for applied research & development via the Aerospace Technology Centre –Increased business engagement & knowledge transfer activities, supported by dedicated Project & Business Manager Total investment will be £9.3million, with £3.6million from European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
