Pareto Principle: Vilfredo Pareto, through data analysis, was able to demonstrate that 80% of the land in Italy belonged to 20% of the families. Similarly, on a statistical basis, 80% of your risk exposure can be attributed to 20% of your hazards.

14 People and Executive Services Group – People and Productivity Division Risk Assessments – Prioritise and Focus! Focus: Initially, identify the 20% of activities that create 80% of your risk exposure. Complete risk assessments for the 20% in consultation with others who may also be involved with the activities– do them thoroughly, do them well! Use the risk assessment process to develop a common understanding about the hazards and the methods that are chosen to control the risk exposure.

16 People and Executive Services Group – People and Productivity Division Funding for OHS Issues Based on Level of Risk Emergency Maintenance- High Risk Contact DTZ, 1300 133 468 for immediate assessment Emergency maintenance funding is available Breakdown Maintenance- Medium Risk Interim measures can be applied while awaiting budget allocation Preventative Maintenance- Low Risk Establish a budget to maintain infrastructure to avoid costly fixes.
