These included meat, fish, eggs, fats and milky foods So that no food was wasted, families would have a feast on Shrove Tuesday to use up all the foods that wouldn’t keep until the end of the 40 days of Lent Pancakes were a good way of using up fat, milk and eggs just by adding flour
