8 Strengths Based Leadership Gallup scientists studied over 1 million work teams, conducted more than 20,000 in-depth interviews with leaders, and interviewed more than 10,000 followers around the world

9 Strengths Based Leadership Goal: to understand why people follow More than 10,000 ‘followers’ were asked to think of a leader that has a positive influence on their daily life – Then list three words that best describe what this person contributes to their life

10 Strengths Based Leadership Why do people follow? – ‘usual suspects’ were not among the most frequent responses e.g. purpose, wisdom, humor, or humility

13 Strengths Based Leadership Stability Security, strength, support, & peace Change is inevitable, so leaders must also offer stability and confidence Transparency – financial and strategic Hope Direction, faith, enthusiasm, & guidance Reacting vis-à-vis initiating “If as a leader, you are not creating hope and helping people see the way forward, chances are, no one else is either.”

14 Federal Employee Engagement Based on a 2010 MSPB survey of approx. 42,000 Federal employees regarding their motivation and engagement in the performance of their work Study found that Federal agencies can make better use of rewards flexibilities by seeking insight into what employees' value and crafting rewards around them Outlines steps that agencies and managers can take to enhance employee motivation and organizational performance
