NOTE: When power turned on, JFTOT-1000 will perform a 5 minute self-test and initialization procedure after which main menu will appear on screen. 2Check condition of fuel filter and replace if needed (refer to Attachment 1). 3Check waste bottle and empty if needed. 4Allow analyzer to warm up for at least 30 minutes. 5 Fill clean, dry sample bottle at lest ¾ full with fresh sample (analysis requires a minimum of 20 ml, however, better results are obtained if sample bottle is relatively full). 6Screw sample bottle firmly onto the sample input port but do not over-tighten. NOTE: Ensure correct length dip tube used for sample bottle chosen and that clean/operate switch is in UP position. 7Press AUTO (1). NOTE: JFT-1000 will automatically begin a complete analysis which consists of 90 seconds of pumping fuel followed by approximately 1 minute of analysis. 8 Once analysis complete, results are automatically displayed on screen – use the arrow keys or ENTER key to scroll from one screen of results to the next. 9Press EXIT to navigate away from results screen – instrument prompts “Do you wish to log data?”. EquipmentMaterials and Reagents  PetroSpec JFT-1000 Turbine Fuel Analyzer  Large 8 oz, Glass Bottles with Plastic Armor (BGS-1301)  Teflon Fuel Filters (BTGS-1420) Scope / Objective This procedure describes the determination of naphthalene content, smoke point and aromatics present in kerosene. The analyzer employs a mid- infrared spectroscopic analysis technique to differentiate and quantify the select components based on the unique spectral absorbance pattern of individual samples. Note: This procedure is only valid at the time of printing. The control version can be found on the Meraux Refinery intranet. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By:

Kerosene Composition Analysis by Mid IR Spectroscopy using JFT-1000 Continued 10Press NO to return to main display. 11Once all samples have been analyzed, pump residual fuel from analyzer by running a sample using an empty bottle. NOTE: Periodically clean system by running a sample of petroleum ether followed by an empty bottle to dry. Note: This procedure is only valid at the time of printing. The control version can be found on the Meraux Refinery intranet. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By: Attachment 1 – Replacing Fuel Filters 1Teflon fuel filter should be replaced every 50 samples or anytime that it appears dirty or restricts flow of sample. 2Disconnect sample bottle if applicable and unscrew the knurled screw above the stainless steel filter housing. 3Lift hinged top plate upward. 4Remove and discard used filter. 5Inspect o-ring located in filter housing cap for any damage and replace if needed. 6Place a new Teflon fuel filter in housing. 7Close filter housing and tighten knurled screw. NOTE: When changing the fuel filter best results are obtained by tilting the instrument on its side while screwing on the filter cap. If the fuel filter does not seat correctly sediment can bypass filter and clog the sample cell.
