NOTE: Upon powering up, the instrument performs a 5 minute diagnostic and initialization procedure. For best results, it is recommended that a 30 minute warm-up period be observed. 2Check condition of fuel filter and replace if needed (refer to Attachment 1). 3Check waste bottle and empty if needed. 4Fill clean, dry sample bottle at least ¾ full with fresh sample. 5Screw sample bottle firmly onto the sample input port but do not over-tighten as breakage may occur. 6Check that dip tube is correct size for sample bottle used (must reach bottom of sample bottle). NOTE: Be sure that the clean/operate switch (on side of analyzer below fuel filter housing) is in the UP position. 7At the main menu, press AUTO (1). 8Display screen prompts for entry of rated octane number, press EXIT. 9Display screen prompts for entry of expected sulfur concentration, press EXIT. 10Display prompts for entry of RVP, press EXIT. EquipmentMaterials and Reagents  PetroSpec GS-PPA Gasoline Analyzer  Large 8 ox, Glass Sample Bottles (BTGS-1301)  Teflon Fuel Filters (BTGS-1420) Scope / Objective This procedure describes the operation of the GS-PPA analyzer for the determination of various components of gasoline samples such as RON, MON, ethanol, benzene, total aromatics, olefins, saturates and toluene. The instrument predicts the property values using a model that correlates the mid-infrared absorbance pattern of samples with that of known reference standards. Note: This procedure is only valid at the time of printing. The control version can be found on the Meraux Refinery intranet. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By:

Note: This procedure is only valid at the time of printing. The control version can be found on the Meraux Refinery intranet. Completed Date:Prepared By:Approved By: Attachment 1 – Replacing Fuel Filters 1Teflon fuel filter should be replaced every 50 samples or anytime that it appears dirty or restricts flow of sample. 2Disconnect sample bottle if applicable and unscrew the knurled screw above the stainless steel filter housing. 3Lift hinged top plate upward. 4Remove and discard used filter. 5Inspect o-ring located in filter housing cap for any damage and replace if needed. 6Place a new Teflon fuel filter in housing. 7Close filter housing and tighten knurled screw. NOTE: When changing the fuel filter best results are obtained by tilting the instrument on its side while screwing on the filter cap. If the fuel filter does not seat correctly sediment can bypass filter and clog the sample cell.
