2 Unit Plan Summary: With the energy crisis that Karachi faces, It is very important that we are sensitive to the issue. Apart from the significant contribution we can make towards curbing energy wastage,we can also understand the impact of our actions in terms of conserving our reserves and reducing emission of green house gases. The question here arises - Do we possess the power to conserve? Yes we do! Together we can become power champions and energy ambassadors. All we have to do is support our young CITYZENS develop an awareness of the deterioration of our environment and the mindless dissipation of our resources, environmental quality and resource conservation, pollution, inflation, the energy crisis and the endangered species.

4 Unit Questions Do we really need to be concerned about saving energy? Do we possess the power to conserve? How can we curb energy wastage? Discuss some useful tips. How can we advocate the need to save energy in your school and house? State what appliances can waste energy in your school and house with the help of an energy audit? How can we conserve energy in all forms using the 4Rs? Content Questions

5 Objectives My students will be able to: Develop awareness in self and in others on how to conserve energy and resources. Use thinking skills to identify a socio-economic issue which bothers them the most. Their performance has a real audience—the community of stake holders. Students collaborate with peers and home to collect and record information about the number of electrical appliances in use. They learn analytical and problem solving skills while they are working on the project. Throughout the project they give and receive feedback on their work.

6 Activities Green Thumbs -Help plant more trees. Power Rangers - Conduct an energy audit of all electrical appliances at home. Replace regular lights with energy savers. Earth walk– Road show performances, carrying banners and slogans building public awareness for the pressing environmental issues. Clean Sweep - Help clean our local park /Beach. 4 R s - Conserve resources using the 4Rs Hydro champions - careful use of water while taking shower, brushing teeth etc. Spray Busters - avoid using aerosol sprays. Collect spray cans to make models of spray busters.

7 Gauging Student Needs Assessment By Finding out what students think about the current problems they face with reference to the use of energy and resources Gathering information on higher-order thinking and 21 st century skills: By answering what strategies they will adopt to conserve energy and resources. By putting in action those strategies. By developing the confidence to communicate and develop awareness in others. By conducting surveys on the usage of various electrical appliances By becoming eco friendly and planting trees, avoiding the use of aerosol sprays. By helping out the community clean up the local parks and beaches. By using water wisely.
