2 Contractions A contraction is one word that is made by putting together two separate words and shortening them. She’ll is short for she will. Part of the word will is missing. The letters w and i are missing and an apostrophe takes its place.

3 Contractions There are about 70 contractions in the English language.
Most contractions are made by leaving out two letters like the word she will (she’ll). Some contractions are missing only one letter.

4 Contractions didn’t I’m
Did not are the two words that make up didn’t. The apostrophe replaces the o, which is in the middle of the word. I am are the two words that make up I’m. The apostrophe replaces the a, which is at the beginning of the word.

5 Contractions let’s we’re
Let us are the two words that make up let’s. The apostrophe replaces the u, which is at the beginning of the word. We are are the two words that make up we’re. The apostrophe replaces the a, which is at the beginning of the word.

6 Contractions we’ll he’s
We will are the two words that make up we’ll. The apostrophe replaces the w and i, which is at the beginning of the word. He is are the two words that make up he’s. The apostrophe replaces the i, which is at the beginning of the word.
