11 Study Method Look at the topic to be studied. Read any objectives or descriptions of what you should learn. Look at chapter index of topics covered. Quickly look at chapter. Attend to vocabulary terms with which you are not familiar. Look at chapter headings, bold text, first paragraphs in a section, first sentences in a paragraph. As you overview the material, make quick notes of vocabulary terms or important points you will be learning. This overview should take 15 to 20 minutes. If you're spending longer than that, you are actually reading the material. Do this before a class presentation and you will learn more during lectures.

12 Study Method Read the book, article, or other material. Read the material quickly and take a few notes that you can go back and decipher later. For example, you might have noted “nucleus" as an important vocabulary term; as you're reading note a few words that will help you remember the definition which you can later write out. Reflect on what you have learned. Try to write out some of the terms and their definitions without looking at your notes. Review the material, using any study guides that are available. Say everything out loud as you study. Make up examples. Compare and contrast ideas. Study with a friend. As you review the material, concentrate on higher-level thinking.
