5 MAIN LESSONS LEARNED 5 Must be held at national and sub- national level Collective development and multistakeholder process is highly positive Conducted in a participatory and inclusive way to ensure credibility to the REDD+ The effective involvement of indigenous peoples, local communities and smallholders

6 THE SURUI REDD+ PROJECT 6 Good Governance - leadership, associations and councils represent indigenous people's rights. Indigenous people are the key players Surui Project - Life Plan 50 years of Surui people Forest Carbon Project – REDD+ as part of the life plan VCS and CCB standards Safeguards and Free, Prior and Informed Consent Paiter Surui Fund - long-term financial mechanism for Surui Life Plan Carbon Contracts - model for others Indigenous people - all the VCUs from the first verification period sold FUNBIO experience

7 THE TAPAJÓS –ARAPIUNS REDD+ PROJECT 7 FUNBIO experience REDD+ Extractive Reserve in the Rio Tapajós eastern Amazon – Size: 647.611 h – Deforestation Rate: 650 h/year – 47 local communities PDD based on Rainforest Standard applicable to protected areas. Safeguards and FPIC based on donors policy (ICCO) and RFS protocols Tapajoara Association - main beneficiary and Association which chairs the Community Council Development of a Benefit-Sharing Fund to support the management plan RESEX
