4 Choosing Rules & Procedures Goal: To help you identify a good system of rules and procedures Why? To ensure an effectively managed classroom by creating an orderly environment with minimal disruptions or wasted time Connection: Domain 2

7 Definitions Rules: identifies general expectations or standards that may prohibit some behavior or define a general standards Procedures (routines): communicate expectations for behavior—usually apply to a specific activity to accomplish something Code of Conduct: school rules and procedures; applies to all students; includes administrative procedures

8 Planning your rules (policies / guidelines) Positively worded Limited scope (3-5 rules) Clearly stated Discuss in class Post in room Keep parents informed Get students involved

9 Consequences Plan ahead of time Get administrative approval Keep Code of Conduct in mind Four types: 1. General—needed everyday 2. Teacher-led / seat work 3. Group work 4. Miscellaneous
