10 Vocabulary Asexual Reproduction – The process by which a single organism produces offspring that have the same genetic material as the parent. Sexual Reproduction – A type of reproduction in which male and female reproductive cells combine to form offspring with genetic material from both parents.

11 List / Group / Label Think about all the characteristics we use to describe an individual. Work in pairs to write each characteristic on a small piece of paper. Classify the characteristics into two groups.

12 Vocabulary Acquired Traits – characteristics an individual has learned. A feature that an organism obtains from their lifetime (cannot be passed down from parent to offspring). Inherited Traits – characteristics an individual was born with. A feature passed down from a parent to offspring.

13 List / Group / Label Label each of your groups characteristics as either “Acquired Traits” or “Inherited Traits.” Put each of your characteristics under each label.

14 Homework Due 2/21/14. Write a paragraph describing the difference between inherited and acquired traits. List 5 examples of acquired traits. List 5 examples of inherited traits.
