6
The research method Annual survey started in 2008 Included 4000 companies in 2012 Personal interviews with company managers Standard questionnaire Anticipating the company’s demand for skilled workforce on a 1-year period and a 3-year period –quota of 2012: graduates will leave vocational school in 2015 –taking into account dropout tendencies Topics The VS Research Program Employer survey Graduate survey Further research
7
Aims and objectives Regional evaluation of expected labour demand for vocational school graduates Comparison with the expected number of recent graduates Identification of skills needs and mismatches Decision support for regional development and training committees (RFKBs) to establish the quota of different vocational trainings Building a forecast system on the long run Topics The VS Research Program Employer survey Graduate survey Further research
8
Key Findings I. Over-supply of skilled workers with big regional differences Some skills can be characterised both by over-demand and over-supply −quality problems of the knowledge (competences) of graduates −low rate of mobility between local labour markets −graduates choose job in another sector with higher wages −Company managers are satisfied with the competences of the graduates −But skilled labour force has a lack of general knowledge and work experience Topics The VS Research Program Employer survey Graduate survey Further research
9
Key Findings II. Topics The VS Research Program Employer survey Graduate survey Further research Growing satisfaction
10
Policy Making HCCI gets the annual results of IEER (supply-demand mismatches) Regional development and training committees establish the quota of vocational trainings being aware of the survey results Main problem with the utilisation of the results: vocational schools hardly follow the decisions when setting the size of the classes − 508 decisions (2010) − 46% of them were followed − decisions of decreasing the quota were followed more rarely than the ones of increasing More effective motivation tools and sanctions would be needed Topics The VS Research Program Employer survey Graduate survey Further research

Graduate Survey
12
Annual survey started in 2009 Includes 3000 vocational school graduates per year Personal interviews with young skilled workers who have left vocational school 9 months before Objectives –Observing career models –Labour market status –Opportunities of employment –Finding a job in the own skills cluster or shifting to another cluster – high rate (two third) of leavers Pilot follow-up survey: 700 graduates Topics The VS Research Program Employer survey Graduate survey Further research
13
Further research Emphasis on follow-up surveys Building a panel database of 6-7000 graduates Features of the career models of vocational school leavers Qualitative research Topics The VS Research Program Employer survey Graduate survey Further research
