2. Unit Objectives Focus for Today Understand the historical and cultural context of early American writing. Understand historical perspectives that make up early American writing. Take notes by charting main ideas and details.

3. Daily Journal #1 Start new DJ set on a new page! Make sure you have DJ #, Date, Prompt, and Response. Based on the title, “The World on the Turtle’s Back”, what do you predict this creation myth will be about? Explain why you predicted this. I will call on you to share answers after. Make sure you explained your answer.

4. Notes: Add to Creation Myths Folk Literature- includes folk tales, myths, fables, and legends passed orally from one generation to the next.

5. The World on the Turtle’s Back pg. 34 Get out a clean piece of lined papers to take notes on. Fold it in 3 sections and label it according to the picture below. Details about Creation/Nature Social Values or CustomsOther Cultural Details, etc. Before the earth was created, humans and animals “of the kind that are around us now” did not exist.

6. The World on the Turtle’s Back cont. As we listen the creation myth, take notes on the three categories on your paper. You will complete a small short answer quiz after the myth. Pay attention to symbolism (ppl, places, things that stand for something beyond self), similarities and differences to other creation accounts you know, idea of good and evil, etc.

7. Vocabulary List 3 Complete Definitions  Due WEDNESDAY! @ start of hour! Test on Friday!
