2 Classification  The hunters/gathers of the pre-literate societies classified plants on how they were used and if they were deadly.  For example: food and medicinal herbs

8 Simple Background Information  Pre-literate societies were very close to the environment that surrounded them.  Since the use of plants was so frequent, names were given to classify them.  Examples: Shaman or Brujo of American Tropics.

9 Methods of Division  Describe plant so that others could recognize it.  Classify it as harmful or useful  Identify other individual plants that could be put in this division  Give a name that it could easily be referred to.
