Classification The hunters/gathers of the pre-literate societies classified plants on how they were used and if they were deadly. For example: food and medicinal herbs

Simple Background Information Pre-literate societies were very close to the environment that surrounded them. Since the use of plants was so frequent, names were given to classify them. Examples: Shaman or Brujo of American Tropics.

Methods of Division Describe plant so that others could recognize it. Classify it as harmful or useful Identify other individual plants that could be put in this division Give a name that it could easily be referred to.
