3. Weekly Homework Homework and Reading Diaries –Please check and sign weekly for spellings, homework notes and teacher reminders. –Reading –Every night for a minimum of fifteen minutes.. Your Help Is Needed! Please listen to your children read. Although it can be difficult, you are a major influence in your child’s learning. Spellings - Children required to learn spellings in context.

6. Tables We are in the process of setting all children a target. You can help by constantly testing and encouraging children to recite tables daily (say them backwards and mixed up). Children should develop instant recall of tables, know the inverse and related number facts. Children who know all their tables will be given mental maths questions as well as being tested on random tables and number sequences. Friday is test day!

7. Numeracy, Literacy and Reading Homework Homework is always based on class work, revision or for the purpose of research. Homework will be given out on a Monday and should be returned on the following Monday. We welcome and encourage homework to be handed in early if at all possible. Maths and Literacy will be set on alternate weeks and Reading Comprehension will be set weekly after the 11+. Our VLE (virtual learning environment) will often have useful links for homework and research purposes.

8. Spellings Spellings will be given on a Monday and tested on the following Monday. Children should spend time learning weekly spellings. Strategies: - LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE technique can help. - Children must always put each word into context and know its meaning – they will be tested. - Revise spelling rules.

9. Maths and Literacy Sets Parallel Maths Sets. Two sets have merged to form two parallels sets for maths (Literacy to follow). Work is differentiated and designed to consolidate and extend an individual’s ability. There is one set where the majority of children will be working above age related expectations. Groups are fluid - a child can move if deemed appropriate by the class teacher.

11. SATS Please do not to book holidays during the SATS period (week commencing 9 th May 2016). There will be a reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) and three separate maths tests (arithmetic plus two papers similar to old style SATS – contextual).

12. PE Full indoor and outdoor kit is needed in school everyday in Year 6. This includes a spare pair of socks, a spare t-shirt (if possible) and a plastic bag for any muddy trainers! Plain, dark tracksuit (no hoods) A note is needed if your child cannot take part in PE lessons.

13. Celebrations! House points System. Replaces credits and each class has a colour: 61 – Red 62 - Green 63 – Blue House captains have been decided democratically and will count house points for the whole school at the end of the week. The winners will be announced in a celebration assembly every Friday. Attendance – Classes will receive house points for attendance; the class with the highest weekly attendance will receive the greatest number of house points. The winning House will receive a reward on a half termly basis. This half term’s reward will be a cinema experience. Star of the Week – This will be announced in assembly and selected by the class teacher.

14. Visits and Visitors Autumn Term: Young Shakespeare Company; Viking Day. Spring Term: Kew Gardens Summer Term: Hall Place, Gilwell Park, Essex (Residential) Additional visits include the school nurse and TFL.
