What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

For our opening title sequence we chose Summit the independent company, (Summit Entertainment) is an American film studio and a supplementary by the Lions Gate Entertainment headquartered in Universal City, California with international offices in London. We thought the company’s links with other thriller films that were successful would be ideal in having them as a distribution company. The head offices is in London which made it cheaper for us to contact the company and sell our ideas about our thriller. Some of the thriller films Summit have distributed:  Mementom (Christopher Nolan, 2000)  Insomnia (Christopher Nolan,2002)  Dot the I (Matthew Parkhill, 2003)  Push (Paul McGuigan,2009) SUMMIT founder - Bernd Eichinger

 Unknown Actors/Producers The Actors are mostly likely to be unfamiliar to a mainstream blockbuster film. The auteur and producers will mostly be unfamiliar to the audiences. The advertisement through social media and viral advertisement can increase a high number of audience to see the film. In our opening title sequence we used our group mates and organised roles to who is producing, acting and directing.  Low Budgeted The budget of the props and wages of the actors is mostly low budget which is under £1 million. The set design will not have any major changes due to the budget of the film. The props should not exceed the amount of money that goes over the low budget mark.  Unfamiliar locations This means there will not be higher demands of the familiar locations. The unfamiliar location can be a certain place that can be used without paying alot of money. In our opening title sequence we used the colleges room which was available at the time also Shawn’s house for establishing shots.  Minimum special effects The special effects can also effect the budget used on creating the film. Our opening title sequence we didn’t have to buy any special effects because of the budget.

EXHIBITION The exhibition is when you show the finished piece. Independent films are usually shown in Art houses for example Duke of York in Brighton which will attract alot of audiences because the film is based in Brighton. The exhibition always try to release the films where people can be in a touch to see the film for example during summer holidays most children films are released this means parents can also take their young children to see the film. The time is important because they want as man people to see he films. DISTRIBUTION The distribution company's are in charge of releasing the films for home viewing, DVD, Video-On-Demand, Download or Television. This could also be a theatrical release and this would usually happen when the distributor works with the theatrical exhibitor to make it happen. The independent film distributors are for examples of these companies are Republic Pictures, Monogram Pictures and Grand National.

 The marketing of an independent film can is usually done by the word of mouth and would usually be limitedly realised to reach a small specific audience based on the films genre. ‘Due Retribution will be advertised on billboards and posters such as bus stops and magazines, on buses or just around cities and towns.  A huge way to advertise the independent film is through film festivals such as the London Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. These festivals can generate publicity for the films and awards can come out of them, which would make the film more popular and make the films gross, a lot bigger.  DVD and TV releases will be advertised for the mainstream film and would gross in more money from the DVD sales. Independent films will realise their films through DVD and TV sales, but wouldn’t have as much publicity then a mainstream would, for the certain attributes that the mainstream film had, such as an award winning director or popular actor.
