2  We The People…  Declaration Quiz!! Declaration Quiz!! What do you already know about the Declaration of Independence?

4  So What Does This Thing Look Like? Something like this ?

5 Why Ruin This Relationship?? The English helped settle the colonies, the colonies sent things like raw materials to England. England sent FINISHED goods back to the colonies? What was the problem?

6 MONEY. Taxation without representation! Several taxes were imposed on the colonies to cut losses for the crown. Some of the more famous taxes are the Sugar Tax and the Tea Tax. Sugar Tax Tea Tax.

7  Time for Crash Course! What Other Factors Are There?

8  Lets Recap! The Colonists (Patriots): Wanted no taxes without representation, freedom to buy non English goods, didn’t want to house English soldiers, wanted to be able to manufacture their own goods without persecution. The English (Loyalists): Wanted their money back from the colonists, wanted colonists to buy only English goods, If colonists want to trade then they have to go through our regulated routes, it’s the colonists’ duty as English citizens to do what their government wants of them this includes housing royal soldiers for a while.

9  Who’s Side Are You On? You will be split up into four groups, from there your group will be given a piece of paper that states what side you will be defending in the war of independence. Each person on the group is responsible for finding one idea to defend their side as well as one piece of factual evidence to support their claim. You must use the evidence provided as well as your book to support your argument. When you are finished, you will combine all your ideas and facts together onto one piece of paper and pick a representative from your group to present to the class your groups claim on the war of independence.
