2  Juan De Pareja was born in the year 1610 in Seville, Spain.  He is the son of a female slave  He was one of Diego Velazquez’s students  He became a religious and portrait painter,  Juan died in 1670 in Spain

3  In 1648, as court painter to Phillip IV of Spain, Diego Velazquez was sent to Rome to purchase works of art, and he took Juan with him  1648-Diego Velazquez painted a portrait of Juan De Pareja  March 19, 1650-the portrait of Juan de Pareja was displayed at the Pantheon  1670-death

4  He became a court painter to Phillip IV of Spain  He was a slave, but studied art and became a painter

5  Juan de Pareja was born into slavery. His new master, Diego Velazquez taught him about art  He was interesting to read about because he had done something impossible for a slave to do.

6  Juan de Pareja was a lifelong assistant of Diego Velazquez, who sets him free, so that he could become an artist. I chose this artist to do a biography about because he had a very interesting life.
