Serving with OMF International The Testimony and Ministry of Solina Chy Written by Solina Chy Produced by John Gowlin Rearranged by Paul Lai

My family lived in Battambang, the second largest city in Cambodia

When Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge communists first took over the country, it seemed that they might bring peace at last. We were a middle class family. My father was a successful businessman. Life was good. Suddenly, in 1975, everything changed …. When Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge communists first took over the country, it seemed that they might bring peace at last.

Instead, we were ordered at gunpoint to leave our homes immediately. Even hospitals were emptied. We were told it would only be for three days. The nightmare of Pol Pot’s utopian dream had started. We worked day and night, with little food to eat. We were under constant surveillance. Many people, including children, were killed. All known government officials, soldiers, merchants and educated people were killed without trial.

My father survived My mother died by the roadside Chy Hath 1918-1999 Hem Chamroeun 1919-1975

For 3 years I lived in the open countryside with the ground as my bed, the sky as my roof, hay as my blanket and with only one set of clothes... without hope and without God.

The fields around us became known as The Killing Fields. This is an excavation of the bones of thousands of victims. Out of a population of 7 million, 1.5 million died and another 200 thousand were murdered.

The Testimony and Ministry of Solina Chy Serving with OMF International in Cambodia In 1977 I was thrown in jail, beaten and tortured. I despaired of life, yet I knew that there was a God who saw my tears. This is the entrance to the Buddhist temple where I was held.. we all knew this place … you never got out alive!

Cambodia was liberated by Vietnam in 1979. By God’s Grace, I survived!

I found what remained of my family, and we escaped to Thailand where we lived in seven different refugee camps hoping to emigrate. Living conditions were appalling but one day I was asked to translate for a missionary. She shared the Gospel with me.

On October 14, 1980,On October 14, 1980, I accepted ChristI accepted Christ as my Savior ! as my Savior ! I knew my God at last.I knew my God at last.

With all I had endured, a deep hatred toward my own people and country had built up in my heart. I said to myself that when my feet reached Thailand I would never return to my country. But when I heard how Jesus forgave His enemies, I knew that, by His Power, I could forgive the Khmer Rouge.

Prairie Bible College in 1984 First in Manila with FEBC – as the Khmer-language program producer and FEBCanada missionary Then I was asked to move to Phnom Penh as Far East Broadcasting’s program manager in Cambodia !

A miracle happened –the bitterness and hatred has been replaced with a deep love for my country and my people. God changed my heart !

My first step back on Cambodian soil 1994
