1 The Dermis

2 Dermis  Composed of dense connective tissue  The Dermis is strong and stretchy (elastic)  Leather goods are made from the dermis of animals.  The dermis is composed of two layers The papillary layer, located just under the stratum basale. The folds and loops of the papillary layer gives you fingerprints! Most of the nerve receptors are located here The papillary layer, located just under the stratum basale. 6  Pallor (blanching) – Skin becomes pale. Caused by anger, fear, anemia, low blood pressure, impaired blood flow

7  Jaundice – a yellow cast, caused by the liver producing too much bile. Common in infants

8  Bruising (hemotomas)– Black or blue marks that show where blood has escaped from the circulatory system and clotted in the tissues. May signify low Vitamin C or hemophilia
