3 Introducing Add-Ins Add-ins are small programs that enhance the functionality of Excel Each add-in performs a specific task Examples of integrated add-ins: SnagIt – captures screen shots Adobe Acrobat – creates PDF files Other add-ins can be installed via the Excel Options window

4 Basic Types of Excel Add-Ins Excel add-ins: Usually one or more macros stored as VBA code.COM add-ins: Generally DLL files; advanced versions of basic VBA macros Smart tags: Tags (such as contact info) that attach functionality to Excel content XML expansion packs: Enable you to work with XML files from other programs

5 Installing and Uninstalling Add-Ins Click the Add-Ins link in the Excel Options window Choose the type of add-in in the Manage list and click Go Choose the desired add-in from the list and begin the installation Follow similar process to remove an add-in; deselect add-in to uninstall
