5. Dr Manette: A doctor in France. He was sent into Bastille by Marquis St. Evremonde because he had tried to save the poor sister and brother; After 18 years life in prison, he was saved by his old servant----Defarge.

6. Lucie Manette: Daughter of Dr.Manette. When she was young, she was brought up by her English mother in England. Several years later, her mother died, and she was brought up by one banker. Before she was 17 years old, she always thought that her father had left the world already.

7. Monsieur Defarge: The old servant of Dr.Manette. And later he became the owner of one little wine shop in Paris. He, together with his wife(Madame Defarge), was for the revolution; and his wife was the right sister of the poor peasant sister & brother,who were badly treated by Marquis St.Evremonde.

10. Sydney Carton: The Rival(enemy) in love of Charles Darnay. In order to show his own love to Lucie, he entered the prison secretly to take the place of Charles Darnay at the last moment. He set Darnay free, and he himself willingly came to contribute his life.That is, he had his head cut off in order to make his love more beautiful.
