6  What is a cyclone? How are Cyclones Formed? 1. Cyclones are severe storms that occur in tropical regions 2.They will occur in tropical areas where the sea is warm 3.The sea has to be at a temperature of at least 27C for a few weeks and a sea depth of 60m or more 4.The hot water will evaporate and rise 5.This causes a low pressure system in the area 6.The air will rise and then condense into clouds called Cumulo Nimbus 7.The warm water acts like fuel, it heats the air above it, causing storm clouds and heavy rainfall 8.They have high winds and large amounts of rainfall 9.It will form high cumulo nimbus clouds and can cover an area of over 1500km 10.The middle will have the eye of the storm (High pressure) and is surrounded by Low pressure 11.In the Northern Hemisphere the storm clouds will rotate in a anti clockwise direction. 12.The storm loses strength when it moves on land and away from the equator 13.Northern hemisphere has cyclones in May-November.
