1 South Carolina Professional Association for Access & Equity SC-PAAE New Member Orientation 2005

2 What is SC-PAAE A network of individuals who are current or former executive, managerial, and professional employees (including faculty) of higher education institutions and agencies who are committed to improving access and equity in higher education.

3 History of SC-PAAE SC-PAAE was established in 1995 by a group of individuals who work with minority focused programs at colleges and universities in South Carolina to promote and support access and equity in higher education.

4 SC-PAAE Goals & Objectives Advocate and advance efforts to improve minority achievement in higher education and equal employment opportunities; Advocate and advance efforts to improve equal employment opportunities for all persons; Support and advance efforts to make colleges and universities more affordable for minority and economically disadvantaged students;

5 Goals and Objectives Continued Promote the welfare of minority faculty, staff and students in higher education; Promote and advance efforts to make higher education more accessible and attractive as a career for minority men and women; And promote and support efforts to increase financial support for access, equity and quality for minorities in higher education.

7 Getting Involved Meeting Schedule – The general body meets quarterly usually in a centrally located venue. Sometimes meetings are held directly following the Commission of Higher Education’s Access and Equity meeting. Projects – SC-PAAE host a number of projects such as grant funded research projects, town hall meetings, banquets, scholarship fundraisers, retreats, professional growth workshops and conferences.

8 Committees Another way to get involved is to serve on a committee. SC- PAAE has a number of committees for members to serve on and use their talents. Joining a committee is a great way to implement your new ideas. Committee List – Student Affairs – Public Relations – Finance – Membership – Research – Bylaws – Nominations – Legislative – Awards – Financial Development

9 Membership All persons registered at the 2005 conference as non-members of SC-PAAE will receive a one year membership FREE! To continue membership the fees are: – One Year [ $50 ] – Two Years [ $95 ] – Three Years [ $135 ] – Graduate Student [ $20 annually ]
