2 What is Speed Networking?  Likened to speed dating  High-intensity, lightening-round, meet-and-greet method of connecting with employers with students for: -Internship opportunities -Full- and part-time jobs -Interview preparedness and practice -Resume writing, and more…

3  When: Friday March 20, 2015  Where: CSN Cheyenne Campus Whitley Lounge  Time: 12-2:30 pm (setup and check-in from 11am to 12noon)  Who: CIT, MT, ET, HIT, and Business Department  Format: 5-2-3 minutes, ten total, 12 sessions CSN Speed Networking Event

8 2014 Speed Networking Results  38 student participants  35 Employers from 25 companies, including NSTech, NV Energy, FAA, Intel, HP, Dell, Link Technologies, City of LV and NLV, and more  Nine 2-hour PD Student Workshops conducted (59 completers)  Invite phone calls were made to NSF TEBA and SIM members  Email blasts to NSF TEBA, SIM, chambers, and rotary groups  Follow-up student and employer surveys completed

9 Student Qualifications  Must be a CIT student majoring: Network Security Network Administration Service and Support Computer Forensics Computer Programing  Must be a MT student majoring: Graphic Design Web Design  Submission of a Speed Networking Application

10 Student Qualifications, cont.  Engineering Technology Students included  Must have a 2.0 GPA  Completion of ENG 100, 101, 107 or 113  Must have a completed the 2-hour student PD workshop  Must have a completed resume

11 Student Preparation  Must attend Student Professional Development Speed Networking 2-hour workshop (resume writing, interview skills, elevator pitch, interview blunders, etc.)  Workshops conduced by BATEC Co-PI, CIT Chair and Co-Chair, CIT/ET Counselor, Student Affairs

12 Be Aware of the Details  Academic and Student Affairs support staff  Timeline and planning meetings  NSF TEBA/SIM, BUS, HIT, and MT B&I kickoff luncheon  Lunch donor, Speed Networking donor  Student and employer applications  Whitley Lounge layout  Facility requests  Work requests for tables, chairs, power, trash cans, etc.  Telemedia request for podium, mic, camcorder, computer, screen (digital clock)  Student flyer, employer flyer, event posters

15 Forecasted Areas For Improvement  Public Relations: Dr. Richards, TV, KNPR, ICS monitors, etc.  Welcome by CSN President Richards  Timer needs to be more visible  5-2-3 format needs to be more strictly adhered to  Wireless mic (in addition to podium mic)  Separate student registration from employer registration  Need more help with registration sign-in and meet and greet  Need to contact students earlier to acknowledge their appl.  Web-based registration system  Promote on FB, LinkedIn, and other social media  Ensure announcements are made to all students (CANVAS)
