1 Persecution of Jews and Muslims:
During the Counter- Reformation By: Abigail Krautheim

2 What happened? As Protestants broke away from Catholic Church people started turning hostile Catholics and non-Catholics persecuted each other Protestants began to disagree against other Protestants Differences in beliefs led to conflicts Time where no religion was safe: atheists were created

3 What happened? New religious freedom brought conflict and turmoil
Both Catholics and Protestants believed Jews and Muslims as heretics : Jews and Muslims were forced to convert to Catholic Christianity or leave Spain- Inquisition Jews resettled in eastern and southern Europe

4 What happened? Forced to live in ghettos- apartment-like prisons
Feared witches were about the land so they started the witch trials Killed many innocent people- Protestants, Jews, and Muslims were also blamed

5 What happened in rest of Europe?
Jews who converted to Christianity or belonged to an educated elite stayed in Spain In many areas of Europe, Jews (and some Muslims) were allowed to stay and live peacefully Had more freedom than when in the Middle Ages

This event showed religious disunity in Europe because many people were split apart by their beliefs Blamed each other for unexplainable problems and diseases Were considered to be performing heresy Showed that new religions didn’t trust one another
