John Wayne Glover Melina Vendetti

 Originally from a working-class family in Wolerhampton, England  He had a troubled relationship with older women in his life, especially his mother Freda (who had had several husbands and many boyfriends)  Convicted of many petty crimes dating back to 1947 for stealing clothing and handbag  He was thrown out of the British army  He was a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Society  He was married with two daughters  Diagnosed with breast cancer. Glover separated from his wife, who took their daughters to New Zealand  He left school at 14  Lived in Mosman, Sydney since 1956  Was considered among his friends a friendly, and trustworthy man  In 1962, he was convicted on two counts of assaulting women in Melbourne  He was sentenced to a three-year good behavior bond Background

CrimesDateVictim(s)Punishment 82-year-old was walking down the street. He followed Mitchelhill and hit her with the hammer on the back of her head and body; several of her ribs were broken. Also took her purse. 1 March 1989Gwendoline Mitchelhill There was no forensic evidence- no punishment Strangled her with undergarments. He searched her purse and the rest of her house for valuables 23 March 1990Joan SinclairCitation Crimes

 a hammer lying in a pool of dry blood on a mat  Sinclair's battered head wrapped in a bundle of blood-soaked towels  She was naked from the waist down and her pantyhose were tied around her neck.  Her genitals were damaged  Glover was found unconscious in the filled bathtub Evidence in last crime

 Police had limited evidence and decided not to question him over the murders, which would have let Glover know of the police suspicions. Glover was put under constant police surveillance including, at one stage, with an automatic tracking device. To make sure that he wasn't being followed, Glover would drive around the block more than once, or drive the wrong way up one-way streets. Two weeks later he committed suicide Sentence

“If he had said to us, "I don't want to talk," we couldn't have proved a thing. Still, the photo matched the descriptions of the gray-haired suspect and in his job as a pie salesman, Glover could have been at any of the murder scenes” Quote

 The Granny Killer Nickname

 The Sociological Theory of Deviance that best describes my criminal is Rebellion. I believe this because he striked out against society to do these things. Most people would have done these things out of a sexual drive but he was not a sexual killer at all, it was strictly just for the kill. He also stayed in the same are od Mossman which normal would be unusual to stay on the same block. Deviance

 I also think that another Sociological Theory of Deviance used by Glover was Retreatism. I think this because he had no specific goal besides killing these elderly women. He was not in it for money or to achieve anything. His goal of success was easily done by the death of these women. Deviance
