10. Organelles What are organelles? Organelles are small things that are found inside of some cells. What do organelles do? Organelles help the cell do all of its important jobs.

21. Where are cells made in the human body?

22. inside of our bones in a substance called bone marrow. Cells are made inside of our bones in a substance called bone marrow.

35. The Organelles and what they do:

36. The Nucleus The brain of the cell. The nucleus controls everything that happens within the cell.

37. The Golgi Body The golgi bodies receive materials from the endoplasmic reticulum and send them to other parts of the cell. They also release materials outside of the cell.

38. Vacuoles In animals, the vacuoles store food, water, wastes, and other materials. In plants, there is usually one large vacuole. This sac stores water, food, waste products, and other materials.

39. Lysosome Lysosomes break down large food particles into smaller ones. They also break down and recycle old cell parts.

40. Endoplasmic Reticulum The endoplasmic reticulum is a maze of passageways that carry proteins from one part of the cell to the other.

41. Mitochondrion The mitochondria are the “powerhouses” of the cell because they produce most of the energy the cell needs.

42. Cell Membrane The cell membrane is the outside boundary of a cell. It controls what can enter or leave the cell.

43. Ribosomes Ribosomes are factories that produce proteins. The proteins are then shipped to the endoplasmic reticulum.

44. Cytoplasm The cytoplasm is the “soup” in which all the organelles are floating.

46. Cell Wall The cell wall is the wall that surrounds the cell membrane. This wall gives plants a stiff, boxlike shape. Cell walls protect and support plant cells.
