God Is Impartial Towards Us Romans 2:6-11 We need God’s forgiveness and He has acted to provide it for us.
2
66God “will give to each person according to what he has done.” 6
3
We must be careful not to draw the wrong conclusion to this verse. Paul is not teaching salvation by works but to the contrary, Paul is saying that the works we do after we are saved will earn us rewards in heaven.
4
Ps 62 12 and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done. 12
5
God judges according to deeds, just as He judges according to truth. Paul was dealing here with the consistent actions of a person’s life, the total impact of his character and conduct.
6
For example, David committed some terrible sins, but the total emphasis of his life was obedience to God.
7
77To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. 8 7 8
8
A person’s work will one day reveal on which side of the cross we are standing on. The left side of the Law or the right side of Grace Why do we do works?
9
True saving faith results in obedience and godly living, even though there may be occasional falls. When God measured the deeds of the Jews, He found them to be as wicked as those of the Gentiles.
10
What reward does the obedience of Christ receive? Question number 3 page 21 of your study book.
11
He will give Eternal Life
12
All works are the actions of people following one of two opposing sources. The power of Darkness or the power of Light. Every deed has a signature that links it unmistakably to either the work of self or the work of God.
13
99 There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. 9
14
1010 But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good— for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. 10
15
Affliction and Distress awaits the self righteous way of living. Rev. 20:13-15 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.
16
1414Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. 15 1415
17
On the other hand the folks that are Sincere for God will be blessed with Glory, Honor, and Peace.
18
First to the Jews and also to the Greek. Paul is telling his readers that the Jews received the message first but just because the Jews were chosen all other would still have the same destiny if they are true followers of Christ.
19
Verse 11 For God does not show favoritism. God will give eternal life to all whose lives reflect a right relationship with him. Historical relationship with God in days of old will not exempt the Jews or anyone from the need of salvation. All will be Judged by God’s righteous standard. 11
