CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP

Death & Eternity - Introduction The Bible teaches that we are more than physical creatures; we are also spiritual beings. For man, therefore, physical death does not mean the end of existence but the end of life as we know it and the transition to another dimension in which our conscious existence continues. Death – a term that, when applied to the lower orders of living things such as plants and animals means the end of life. With reference to human being, however, death is not the end of life.

Spiritual Death Everyone who has not been redeemed by Christ is spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1 - 3; Colossians 2:13) Because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), all people are spiritually dead – separated from God who is the source of spiritual life. Sin is the most serious problem we have here on Earth. Self is the source of ALL Sin!!!

Without His forgiveness, we would all be hopelessly destined for the second death (Hell) Romans 3: 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3: 23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Ephesians 2: 1- 3 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air (Satan), the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts.

Cloud of Sin Separates God the Son God the Son Came Down to Earth Son GRACE Holy Spirit Father Faith

Your Life Physical Birth Physical Death 0102030405060708090 Mark the Age When You Became A Christian Mark Your Present Age Your Life’s Clock Is Running !! Assume that you will live to be 90 Eternity Body Life Soul Life

Many think that life ends with the grave But that is where we leave the body and face a fork in our road

The Narrow Gate / Road This Way For Fun Pleasure Happiness Life Destruction Jesus is the Narrow Gate at the Fork in Your road Narrow is the Road And Few There Are that Find It! Matthew 7: 13 - 14

Matthew 7: 13 – 14 Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. We are surrounded by multitudes of folk blinded by Satan on their way to destruction and they do not realize it! Will You Warn them??

Life on Earth 90 Years? This Age and the Age to Come Heaven with God Hell Apart from God The Age To Come The Present Age II Corinthians. 4:4 Destination with Christ (Paradise) Destination apart from Christ (Sheol) Death of the BodyThe Fork in the Road

II Corinthians 4: 4 The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 90 years of life on earth is nothing compared to eternity. Do you really think that gratifying yourself for the remainder of your 90 years is worth giving up Heaven for eternity and spending eternity in Hell?? Satan will use the things of this world to blind you to truth and deceive you into thinking that you have plenty of time to get right with God. He is really only interested in having you spend eternity with himself in HELL!! Your eternal destination is determined by choices made during your 90 years on earth. You will either go to Paradise with Christ or to Sheol with Satan. Paradise is like a Persian garden (Eden) but Sheol is a miserable place.

Resurrection of the Body and Judgment Judgment of Works (Jesus’ Bema) Judgment of the Dead (Great White Throne) Jesus Returns Resurrection The Age To Come It is Appointed Unto Man Once to Die (physically) and then the Judgment – Hebrews 9:27 Destination with Christ (Paradise) Destination apart from Christ (Sheol) The Present Age ETERNITY

John 5: 25 – 29 “I tell you the truth, a time is coming when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live (spend eternity with God in Heaven). For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself. And He has given Him authority to judge because He is the Son of Man Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves (Paradise or Sheol) will hear His voice and come out – those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.”

Judgments Revelation 20: 11

The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Sheol gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. Then death and Sheol were thrown into the lake of fire (Hell) The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. The Christian passed from death to life when he choose Jesus to be the Lord of his life. Thus, his name is recorded in the Book of Life. The books of deeds for the Christian will result in rewards in Heaven and the books of deeds for the unbeliever will result in degrees of punishment in eternal Hell! Revelation 20: 11 - 15 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from His presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and the books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. Please note that there is a book (of life) and there are books of deeds. The books contain detailed records of our deeds while we live on earth.

Hebrews 9:29 It is appointed unto Man once to die; then comes the Judgment Hebrews 9:27 ARE YOU READY??

ASSIGNMENT: Continue daily Bible study and prayer. Ask God for revelation of His purpose for your life. Speak to someone about what Christ means to you. Volunteer to minister in some capacity through your church.
