2 How the Gateway Arch is related to the Midwest
The Gateway Arch is located on the Jefferson Memorial Expansion and is a landmark in the state of Missouri. The Gateway Arch is also right near the edge of the Mississippi River.

3 Gateway Arch’s importance to the Midwest
The Gateway Arch reflects St. Louis’s role in the Westward Expansion of the United States during the nineteenth century. The park is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson’s role in opening the West, to the pioneers who helped shape it’s history, and to Dred Scott who sued for his freedom in the Old Courthouse.

4 Contributions to the Economy and History
The Gateway Arch began being built on February 12th, 1963 and was completed on October 28th, 1965. The Gateway Arch was made by Finnish- American architect Eero Saarinen. The Arch honors three events; The Louisiana Purchase, The establishment of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis and the Dred Scott case.

5 More Interesting Facts
The Gateway Arch is 630 feet tall and 630 feet wide. The Gateway Arch is the tallest land monument. Each wall is made of reinforced stainless steel covering reinforced concrete. Inside the Gateway Arch there is an elevator system that takes you to the top of the monument and takes you back down.
