Lesson 2- 6: Radical Functions Advanced Math Topics
2
Radical Functions and Equations A function that has a variable under the radical is a radical function
3
To Solve a Radical Equation 1. get the radical by itself. 2. Raise both sides of the equation to the power necessary to get rid of the radical 3. Solve for x by any method necessary (this could be simple Algebra, factoring, or the quadratic formula) 4. Check your answers and make sure none of them give you negative values inside the radical, if they do we call them extraneous solutions.
4
Things to Remember You can only take the even roots of positive numbers You can take odd roots of positive and negative numbers
5
Example 1 Solve √x+7 - 1 = x
6
Example 2 Solve √2x+1 - x = -1
7
Example 3 Solve
