7 * Writing Prompt: As you know, March 22 is World Water Day. Throughout this unit, we have explored themes related to the issue of water scarcity and sanitation throughout the world. The main characters in our novel experience many struggles because of water. * In 2014, the United Nations is working to bring the world’s attention to the water-energy problem, particularly by looking at the inequities, especially for the 'bottom billion.' The bottom billion is made up of people who live in slums and very poor rural areas. They survive without access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation, sufficient food and energy services. * Your job is to write a letter to leaders of our world community to take action and correct this problem. * Prompt: After researching articles, web sites, data, and other documents on the world water crisis, write an argumentative letter persuading leaders of our world community to take action and work to correct this problem. In this letter, you will (1) Describe the causes of the problem, (2) Explain the effects of the crisis and (3) Devise a specific set of solutions that think will really fix this problem. As always, be sure to support your ideas with specific details, evidence, and examples.

8 * To begin our exploration of World Water Day 2014, we will watch a series of videos that focus on the topic. * Use the Cornell Notes to annotate important facts and main ideas in each of the videos. This information will help you support your argumentative/ persuasive letter. * Once we have finished watching these videos, you will be given the opportunity to explore the World Water Day Website (http://www.unwater.org/worldwaterday/home/en/)http://www.unwater.org/worldwaterday/home/en/ * Continue the use of the Cornell Notes strategy to gather evidence and details to support set of solutions and reasons for your persuasive letter.
