7 Some animals we see often are deer, raccoons, birds, foxes, and squirrels. Our state bird is the cardinal. Some plants we see a lot are daisies, roses, oak trees, maple trees, pine trees, and cottonwood trees. Our state flower is the peony. Local Plants and Animals from INDIANAPOLIS

8 Tulip Tree Indiana’s state tree is the tulip tree, a member of the magnolia family. The tulip tree can reach the height of 100 ft. or more, and matures very quickly. It has a very straight trunk measuring 2 to 4 feet in diameter. It is a valued timber species as well as being a forest giant. When Abe Lincoln (former U.S. president) cut logs for his cabin, the logs were probably from a tulip tree. Daniel Boone most of the time used the wood to build canoes. I think the tulip tree is a very cool tree.
