1 Circulatory System By Kyle & Tristen

2 How Does Blood Circulate?  Your body has structures and systems that serve special functions.  The circulatory system moves material around your body.  The parts of the circulatory system are the heart, the blood, and tubes called blood vessels.

3 The Body’s Transportation System  The body has a transportation system that moves food and oxygen to each cell. It then takes away cell wastes.  This system is the circulatory system.  As with all systems, each part of the circulatory system has structures to help get the job done.

4 Arteries, Capillaries, and Veins  Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart to other parts of the body. Arteries have thick muscular walls that stretch as the heart pushes blood into them.  A capillary is the smallest kind of blood vessel. Some capillaries are so small that red blood cells have to travel through them in a single file line.  Veins are blood vessels that transport blood to the heart. Unlike arteries and capillaries, veins have valves. Valves are flaps that act like doors to get the blood flowing in one direction.
