2. St. Augustine He (Jonah) prefigured the carnal people of Israel. For he also was grieved at the salvation of the Ninevites, that is, at the redemption and deliverance of the Gentiles, from among whom Christ came to call, not righteous men, but sinners to repentance

3. The Trinity calls all 2And behold, there was a man named Zaccheus, who was a chief tax-collector. And he was rich. Lk 19:2 1And the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai. Jon 1:1

4. Opposite reactions And he sought to see Jesus, to see who He was. And he could not because of the press, because he was little in stature. Lk 19:3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD... Jo 1:3

5. Humility VS Pride And he ran in front and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him. Lk 19:4 And he prayed to the LORD and said, Please, O LORD, was this not my saying when I was still in my land? On account of this I fled before to Tarshish. For I knew that You are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and One who repents over calamity. Jo 4:2

6. The Trinity is the initiator 17And the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. Jon 1:17 5And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him. And He said to him, Zaccheus! Hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house. Lk 19:5

7. Anger Vs Joy And hurrying he came down, and received Him joyfully. Lk 19:6 But it was a great calamity to Jonah's eye, and it kindled anger in him. Jon 4:1

8. Trinitarian heart towards sinners And seeing, they all murmured, saying, He has gone in to stay with a sinful man. Lk 19:7 And should I not spare Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than a hundred and twenty thousand men who do not know between their right and their left hand, besides much cattle. Jon 4:11

9. Forgiveness to all repented 9And Jesus said to him, This day salvation has come to this house... Lk 19:9 10And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God was compassionate over the evil that He had said to do to them, and He did not do it. Jon 3:10

10. He is the Savior For the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Lk 19:10 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their evil has come up before Me. Jon 1:2

11. St. Augustine Let me know You, O You who knows me; let me know You, as I am known. O You strength of my soul, enter into it, and prepare it for Your self, that You may have and hold it without “spot or wrinkle.
