1 MnDOT 2007 Pilots n Mixture Sampling Modification –Increase randomness of sampling. »Sample is split in the field and stored in containers labeled with field identification numbers. »The Field Inspector immediately retains possession of the Agency portion of each split sample that is taken and randomly submits a minimum of one sample, on a daily basis, to the District Laboratory for Verification testing

2 MnDOT 2007 Pilots n Pavement Density –Include daily longitudinal joint density evaluation in addition to mat density evaluation. –Modify number of cores taken per lot to 4. »Companion core taken for each Contractor sample. »The Department will select one of the two companion cores per lot to be tested. However, the Department may elect to test all companions to provide a direct verification of all individual and daily average test results

3 MnDOT 2007 Pilots n Asphalt Film Thickness (AFT) –Funded research project: »Investigation of In-place AFT and Performance of Minnesota HMA. n University of Minnesota is Principal Investigator –Objective is to determine if AFT as a design and construction specification is better than using VMA. n 2006 MnDOT Experience –By most accounts, all went well »Coarse mixes ….result of AFT or high asphalt prices or both?? n For 2007, continue evaluating on pilot project basis.
