2 What do they do? Civil Engineers design and supervise the construction of roads, bridges, tunnels, buildings, airports, and other stuff that are needed in a city.

3 How much does it pay? According to a 2003 salary survey, people with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering started at $41,669 a year on average. People with a master's degree started at $47,245 a year. People with a Ph.D. started at $69,079 a year.

4 Benefits Of This Job In the career of civil engineering you get lots of vacation time when there is no work to be done. But you may be on the job for a long time if there is a building or tunnel being built. You also get health care benefits when working. If you get injured when you are at work, you will be taken care of.

5 Different Specialties There are different specialties in the career of civil engineering. The major specialties are structural, water resources, environmental, construction, transportation, and geotechnical engineering.

6 What About The Future? It is said that civil engineers will have more jobs in the future. The more crowded the earth gets, the more building they will need.
