3
Agenda AppManager 7 new features overview –Agent Auto-deployment –Rules-based Management Groups –Monitoring Policy Exceptions –Control Center Enhancements AppManager 7.01 Overview
4
AppManager Agent Auto-deployment Description –Automated detection of new machines & applications –Automated remote deployment of agents & modules –Rapid response to changing environments (every 5 min by default) –Multiple, firewall-friendly deployment servers Benefits –Significantly reduces cost of deploying and upgrading agents –Reduces monitoring exposure when changes occur –Reaches into “nooks & crannies” of the managed environment to install agents Bottom Line –Fully automate monitoring configuration from metal to production When combined w/ Rule-based Management Groups & Monitoring Policy
5
AppManager Agent Auto-deployment Control: Requires little intervention, but won’t run amuck either Security: Rule-specific credentials enable distinct handling for each security domain Scheduling: Granular control over when deployments happen Firewall-friendly: Use deployment servers positioned in appropriate DMZs
6
Rules-Based Management Groups Description –Dynamic membership for Control Center Management Groups –Easy-to-use wizard for creating rich, query-based rules –Computers added & removed automatically Benefits –Reduces the overhead of maintaining computer groups in a dynamic, changing IT environment –Eliminates the need to manage views in Operator Console –With Monitoring Policy, ensures appropriate jobs are deployed each computer Bottom Line –Fully automate monitoring configuration from metal to production When combined w/ AutoDeployment & Monitoring Policy
7
Rules-Based Management Groups Rules Wizard: Easily create rich, but understandable rules Templates: Quickly build rules using NetIQ-supplied Expression Templates Rich Criteria: Powerful new ways of filtering computers into Management Groups
8
Monitoring Policy Exceptions Description –Job Parameter Override: One policy but with unique job parameters on each machine –Job Status Override: Ability to stop or start Monitoring Policy jobs –Job Comments: Ability to apply comments to specific jobs explaining an exception or “naming” them for future reference Benefits –Flexible Monitoring Policy increases IT efficiency while facilitating IT agility Bottom Line –Fully automate monitoring configuration from metal to production When combined w/ AutoDeployment & Rule-based Management Groups
9
Monitoring Policy Exceptions Override Column: Custom Properties can be designated to override almost any job parameter in any KS
10
Control Center Enhancements Service Map Enhancements –Auto-populating embedded Server Views –Filtered embedded Event Views –Selectable Icon Size –‘Right Click’ extensible menus –Delegated Service Map Authoring Improved Efficiency –Maintenance Mode –Improved Navigation and Organisation Improved Scalability
11
AppManager 7.01 Update SQL Virtual Node –Discover SQL Clusters from virtual node perspective –Drop Jobs on virtual node and generate logical data stream
12
Discovery: Virtual Cluster Nodes in treeview Jobs: Master job plus job running on each physical node
13
AppManager 7.01 Update Vista Support –Run agent and AM consoles on Vista (32 bit) AppManager 7.0.1 Unix –Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 support –Improved agent stability and new Syslog architecture
