Definition A line graph is a graph that has points which are connected by lines. It shows how one thing changes as another one does. www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/line-graph.htm l

Example http://www.studyzone.org/testprep/math4/d/linegraph4l.cfm

Data At least one set of data Independent and dependent variable Numbers Connect the points with lines

Data Collection and Graph 2/12/13 Low: 27 High: 41 2/13/13 Low: 30 High:45 2/14/13 Low: 28 High: 48 2/15/13 Low: 21 High: 39 2/16/13 Low: 21 High: 27 2/17/13 Low: 14 High: 25 http://www.wunderground.com/weather-forecast/US/PA/Eagleville.html

Explanation 1.Collect all numerical data. 2.Plot on a coordinate grid in order. 3.Decide if the data is discrete or continuous. 4.If discrete, don’t make a line graph. If continuous, connect the points.

Problems Draw a line of fit for the low temperatures. Using the points. Then predict future temperatures if the trend continues. (Increase or decrease?) Compare the slopes of the high and low lines.

Advantages and Disadvantages Advantages Helps to show how one thing changes while another does You can show more than one data set as long as the units are the same. Disadvantages You can’t compare two categorical data sets like a bar graph can. The data set must be continuous.
