2 NSC’s role in vegetable seed production
NSC handles wide range of vegetable seeds suitable for diverse agro- climates in various parts of the country. NSC’s vegetable groups cover 37 crops and 172 varieties including 41 hybrids. ‘NSC seed production is organised under strict technical supervision through experienced and well trained contract seed growers in identified locations in the country. NSC plans to organise 30,605 qtls. of vegetable seeds production including 20,000qtls. Of seed potato during About 1848 hect. will be put under seed production for vegetables during through NSC’s contract growers.

8 NSC Proposal Plan for production of 30605qtls. Vegetable seeds including potato during This would require seed production programme in about 1848hects. National Horticulture Mission – operational guidelines provide for Rs.50,000 per hect. as assistance for vegetable seed production in public sector. Accordingly, for 1848 hect. Estimated assitance of Rs.924 lakhs has been sought.
