2 MCMS Mining Course Management Systems MCMS is a knowledge management system to monitor student academic behaviour with efficient intervention.

3 How does MCMS work? Identify module and student at risk of drop out or academic under performance. Monitor students academic activities Class Attendance Library Usage Online Learning System Usage Exam Marks Assignment Submission Alert on modules and students at risk

4 How does MCMS help you? Reports regularly on module performances via Email. Alerts when students are at risk and recommends how to intervene. Dear xxx, …There are 3 students may need your attention. These students are Tom smith, Richard River, …

5 How does MCMS help you? you can access iMCMS web application to check your modules and students performance at any time.

6 You can see top 5 modules at risk in terms of prospected dropout rates, marks, resit rates. Students’ performance details are provided with risk index value calculated by data mining. You can compare your module with the previous module offerings. You can also check a student’s risk chart or email them by clicking a student id.

7 You can setup details of your module such as its learning outcomes, activity points and module image used for iMCMS student web sites. You can subscribe to a regular report on your module. You can also setup student intervention rules for your students

8 If you are a programme(course) leader, you can find another menu called MODULES-PL. It shows you top 5 modules at risk within your programme. You can see course performance and detailed performance of each module in the course. You can also contact the module leader by clicking the module icon. The course performance chart is displayed when you expand the menu.

9 If you are a head of school, you can find a menu called COURSES. It shows you top 5 courses at risk within your school. You can see course performance details.

10 If you have administration right, you can find another menu called SCHOOLS. Top 5 schools at risk You can check current schools performance such as graduate rate, dropout rates. a school’s risk chart will be shown when you expand this menu. Schools performance graph is also available

11 To illustrate MCMS process, two scenarios will be used as example.

12 CASE 1: ”Mike Smith” A lecturer got a sudden alert email regarding his ‘Accounting & Control’ module.

13 Mike gets a regular report every month. Open the attachment

16 CASE 2: “Samia Oussena” A lecturer got a sudden alert email regarding the students at risk.

20 How does MCMS help students? Student can also access iMCMS web application to check their academic performance at anytime.
