The gingerbread man’s clothes – Notes to the teacher You could use this as a drawing / colouring activity. Ask the children to draw all the clothes in on the big gingerbread man on the right hand side. You could use this to teach and practise the clothes in French: Some buttons = des boutons A scarf = une écharpe A hat = un bonnet (literally “bonnet” not ordinary “hat”) A belt = une ceinture Some gloves = des gants Trousers = un pantalon (Note this is singular in French) A waistcoat = une veste Shoes = des chaussures Notice and ensure you teach the gender of the words. Nouns do not exist on their own in French without an article as they do in English. You cannot teach the word “veste” without the word une or la with it.
